Training on monitoring forest changes in Quang Nam province in 2024

Implementing Plan No. 21/KH-CCKL dated May 14, 2024 of Quang Nam Forest Protection Department to improve skills and professional expertise in forest monitoring and forest resource monitoring for forest rangers in the entire force, the Forest Protection Department organized an intensive training course on Forest Resources Monitoring Software (FRMS 4.0), Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART), and map editing toolkit on tablets and mobile phones.

The training course took place from October 28, 2024 to November 1, 2024, at the Quang Nam Forest Protection Department Hall, No. 77 Tran Quy Cap, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province. Participants are staff assigned to monitor, update forest changes, and manage the forest resources of the units. The training lecturer is MSc. Vu Van Thai, a Forestry and GIS expert, from Green Field Consulting and Development Co., Ltd.

Quang Nam is a province that has invested in building a Forest Monitoring System since 2020, and has been officially operating since 2021. The system has detected more than 30,000 forest change points, with an accuracy of over 75%, including several cases such as forest changes, forest fires, encroachment, and agricultural production that have been detected and handled promptly. The system has provided one of the input data to update forest developments, improving the capacity of forest rangers to use high technology to serve forest monitoring and supervision more effectively. The Quang Nam province’s forest management and monitoring system, developed by Green Field Consulting and Development Co., Ltd., was put into operation in 2021 and has been operating stably until now.
