Every year, Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) is severely affected by urban flooding, causing damage to the property of the people, affecting infrastructure and economic activities. The Department of Construction and the Infrastructure Management Center have had a clear vision of applying information technology to modernize the infrastructure management system of HCMC in order to support the management tasks of the center, including flood management .
Understanding that vision, the initiative Flood reporting and decision support platform for Ho Chi Minh city (hereinafter referred to as the platform) is a technical support of the World Bank (World Bank) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) for the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City to contribute to the implementation of the above vision.
The main objective of the platform is to create a tool for digitalization of data collection, ensuring the systematic storage of data, from which data can be easily synthesized and extracted for reporting, analyzing, and managing flood situations. Besides, the platform is also a channel for the citizens of HCMC to collect and acquire flood information.
