The project “Mainstreaming Natural Resource Management and Biodiversity Conservation Objectives into Socio-Economic Development Planning and Management of Biosphere Reserve in Viet Nam” funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for 5 years from 2019 to 2024 implemented by the Vietnam Environment Administration, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The project implementation location is Hanoi and 3 pilot biosphere reserves are Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An (Quang Nam province), Dong Nai (Dong Nai province) and Western Nghe An (Nghe An province).

The Natural Resources Assessment Project at Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve aims to assess the current status and map layers of biodiversity and socio-economic resources to identify set-aside, and develop Commune Conservation Plans for priority communes in Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.

Mission

  • Assessment and mapping of socio-economic, biological diversity, environment and institutions of Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An Biosphere Reserve;
  • Work with stakeholders, including local communities, on the needs and services expected from inexhaustible use of resources in set-aside at the Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An Biosphere Reserve’s;
  • Develop an inexhaustible resource use plan for the set-aside of the Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve;
  • Identify priority communes for the development and implementation of the Commune Conservation Plan (CCP) and develop a map of biological and socio-economic resources of the selected communes to identify solutions for livelihood development;
  • Build the participatory Commune Conservation Plan for the selected communes.
